AFA AUTUMN SALON
Curator: Alice Kok

Now in its 15th year, the AFA Autumn Salon aims to create a platform between Macao artists and the public. In addition to representatives from AFA and the Orient Foundation, this year's Autumn Salon jury also included a representative from Sands China Ltd., the venue sponsor. After a series of discussions and selections, the Autumn Salon 2024 will feature 113 artists exhibiting over 200 pieces (sets) of selected works, more than double the number of previous editions!

This year's jury comprises representatives from the local art community, including Ms. Catarina Conttinelli da Costa (Director of the Orient Foundation in Macao), Mr. Lok Hei (President of Macau Artists Society), Architect Mr. Carlos Marreiros (President of the Albergue SCM), Mr. Wilson Lam (Founder of Macao Creations), Mr. James Wong (President of the Macao Printmaking Research Centre), renowned designer and artist Mr. Victor Marreiros, Pedro Reigadas (Founder of Arte Periférica Gallery in Portugal), Mr. Nuno Calçada Bastos (Representative of Sands China Ltd.), and Ms. Alice Kok (President of AFA). Last year’s (2023) Orient Foundation Art Award winner, artist Wong Sio Heng, will be featured in this year's Autumn Salon in the "Exhibition in Exhibition".

The artworks exhibited in the "AFA Autumn Salon 2024" are all from artists who work, study, and live in Macao. The selected works reflect the vibrancy of current local artistic creation. This year, the exhibition will be held for the first time at the Shoppes at Parisian, spanning eight exhibition halls. The exhibition layout is guided by different artistic mediums, the nature of the works, and artistic orientations. These include traditional media such as oil painting, watercolor, ink painting, ceramics, and sculpture. Some halls will feature digital forms of expression such as photography, 3D modeling, video, and installations. Other halls will focus on Pop Art and digital illustrations by the younger generation, initiating a cross-generational artistic dialogue.

In addition to the open call, this "Autumn Salon" also features an "Invited Artists List," including renowned and outstanding Macao artists such as Lok Hei, Carlos Marreiros, Ung Vai Meng, Victor Marreiros, Chan Hin Io, Leong Lampo, Cindy Ng Sio Ieng, Cristina Mio U Kit, Wong Ka Long, Tong Chong, Pakeong, Lai Sio Kit and more. Sculptors Cristina Rocha Leiria, known for her work on the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre statue, and Mrs. Un Chi Iam, are also specially invited to participate.
